Away day misery for Palfreymens men

Wilberfoss AFC came back down to earth with a bump on Saturday as they were defeated on their travels at Tockwith AFC.

Manager Andrew Palfreyman went with the same starting eleven that had done so well the week previous, however Tockwith dominated possession in the early stages and whilst chances fell at both ends the game went into half time 0-0

Within 5 minutes of the restart the home side took the lead as a short back pass allowed Campagna to nip in and lift the ball over the on rushing Hendry. Willoughby then replaced the injured Newby however it was soon 2-0 as Gledhill stepped inside from the right wing, beat 2 Foss defenders before rifling the ball home.

The goal sprung ‘Foss into life, and they soon reduced the deficit as a deflected Mackenzie free kick found the bottom corner. The away side then hit self destruct once again, a reshuffle in defence was required after Condren picked up an injury and with a lack of organisation Wilberfoss lost the ball on the edge of their own box for Campagna to nip in to make it 3-1.

Once again ‘Foss fought back, as a corner was cleared the ball was helped back into the box for full back McCallum to back flick into the net to give the East Yorkshire men hope. It was however that man Campagna who put the nail in the coffin, as he once again found space in the away side 18 yard box before smashing the ball past Hendry at his new post to seal his hat trick.

Following the match, assistant manager Simon Hammond spoke “We gave possession away too cheaply today, individual mistakes and a lack of communication has really undone us. At times we looked dangerous going forward but theirs lots to work on if we are to compete at this level”

MOM 🏅 – Alex McCallum – a solid performance at right back and topped his good display with an acrobatic flicked goal.
