Wilberfoss AFC 3-1 Riccall United
Wilberfoss AFC started their new Division One campaign with 3 points after a professional 3-1 victory over last seasons relegation Premier League side Riccall.
Manager Andrew Palfreyman gave club debuts to the experienced Mike MacKenzie who had signed in the summer from York RI along with Wilberfoss AFC U19s striker Dan Harvey. The two debutants proved to be the difference between the 2 sides, as Harvey beat his man on 22 mins before excellently finding the on rushing ‘Foss captain Oliver Newby to fire home from close range. 10 minutes later in was 2-0 as Harvey and MacKenzie combined. MacKenzie hit a wonderful 30 yard cross field pass which Harvey rose to head home.
12 minutes into the second half and Mackenzie got in on the act as he waltzed past his marker before hit a left footed shot in to the bottom left hand corner from 20 yards. With 21 minutes remaining on the clock, Riccall struck back with a superb effort which found the top left hand corner of the net.
Following the match, manager Andrew Palfreyman commented “I’m delighted to start the season with a win, its always important to hit the ground running. After an indifferent pre season I thought the attitude of every player was super and in particular, I thought Dan (Harvey) & Mike (Mackenzie) were brilliant for us today.”
