Wilberfoss AFC 1-1 Bubwith FC

Wilberfoss AFC welcomed Bubwith FC to the Storking Lane Ground on Saturday as the teams when head to head in cup action. Andrew Palfreyman has depleted squad with a number of injuries and players away.
The game started at a frantic pace as both teams looked to stamp their authority on the game. ‘Foss took the lead on 9 minutes when a long ball forward when misjudged by the Bubwith left back who sliced his clearance over the keeper into the empty net.
5 minutes later and the away side we on level terms, ‘Foss failed to clear the ball and a good cross from the right looked to have been caught by ‘foss keeper Rich Cole before being bundled into the net by Bubwith striker William Nicholson. The ref judged this be a fair challenge and the goal stood. As the half grew both teams found the going tough, with windy conditions and rather hard playing surface.
The second created very little in terms of clear cut chances, with the nearest chance to a goal coming from Wilberfoss forward Liam Booth who managed to great free on goal but he saw his lob bounce over the bar.
With the game a stalemate it was to be decided by spot kicks. Rich Cole in the ‘Foss goal made two fantastic saves has the East Yorkshiremen progressed into the quarter finals 4-2 on penalties.

Following the game Palfreyman spoke “I was disappointed with our performance today. The lads know my thoughts and we have to improve if we want to progress in the competition. In fairness it was an awful game of football but credit to those lads to put their hands up and stuck their penalties away.
