Yew Tree Associate sponsored Wilberfoss AFC signed off their league winning campaign is style with a much deserved victory of fierce rivals Barmby Moor. ‘Foss new a victory would halt any slim chance of Barmby gain promotion so whilst the tile was won there was still plenty to play for.

Barmby started brightly and controlled the early stages however struggled to really test ‘Foss kepper Rich Cole. However on the 20 minute mark they took the lead which was no more than they deserved. A cross from the right was poorly dealt with by the Wilberfoss defence before being prodded home. The goal kick started ‘Foss and 9 minutes later were on level terms. Quick thinking from Tom Matthews released Newby in the box who went down under a challenge from Sam Appleton. Appleton who had already been booked challenged the referee’s decision who decided to reach for his pocket again and dismiss the Barmby Moor centre back. Newby stepped up and made no mistake smashing the ball into the top left corner. It was soon 2-1 as ‘Foss gained momentum, a cross from Matty Wain was headed back across the box by Rich Tinson for Newby to volley home.

Further chances fell to both sides before the break with Barmby hitting the post and Newby missing a golden opportunity for his Hat Trick. In to the second and Andrew Palfreymans men continued to control the game. on 55 minutes Newby was not to be denied when another superb ball into the box saw his header find the the bottom left hand corner. On the hour mark McCallum replaced Newby. King and Matthews continued to dictate with both Wain and Booth causing problems down the flanks. It was the latter who put the nail in the coffin for Barmby as he slipped the ball past Paul Travers before hammering the ball left footed past his for teammate Adam Thomas in the Barmby goal.

Following the game the league trophy was presented to the team which sparked celebrations and obligatory champagne spray. Palfreyman spoke “I’m proud of every single one of my boys, they’ve been fantastic all season. I’m delighted to finally get my hands on the trophy. I came to ‘Foss to win things and so pleased for everyone involved at the club.
