Reserves Dumped Out of Cup

Wilberfoss AFC Reserves 0-6 Howden AFC Academy

Wilberfoss Reserve welcomed Howden Academy to The Storking Lane ground on Saturday where both teams looked to book their place in the last 4 of the cup.
It wasn’t a great start for Foss’ who had two players drop out of the team on the morning of the game and had absentees which left them with no out and out centre halfs for the game. This showed within the first few moments when a ball over the top saw them caught out and allowed Howdens striker to run through on goal and put the away side 1-0 up. It was shortly 2-0 when a free-kick managed to be cleared but fell to the on rushing midfielder who sent the ball back towards the Foss’ goal and past keeper Hendry.
As Foss’ managed to start to get a hold in the game it was a matter of taking chances and it was the home side who couldn’t seem to do this. It could of easily been 3-2 to the home side going into half time but just before the break the away side hit Foss’ on the counter and another ball over the top found Howden striker again as he made it 3-0. Manager Paul Jacques told his players at half time it was the simple matter of calmness and composure in front of goal and in the first 45 minutes the away side had it and Foss’ didn’t. A change of formation saw Foss’ go more attacking looking to get back into the game.
The first few chances of the second half fell to Foss’ but once again none of them were converted and the score stayed 3-0. As the half grew on the home side became more open as they looked to gain some advantage and chance to get back in the game. With doing so they left themselves too open at the back and as the full-time whistle blew Howden had repeated the score from the first half and ended up finding themselves 6-0 victors.
Manager Paul Jacques said after the game that he was disappointed with the team performances in that it could of easily been 6-6 at the end but they just couldn’t finish. Foss’ travel to Rufforth next week as they look to get back to winning ways in the league.
