O’Brien moves quickly to add youth and experience
Although only in the job for 48 hours new Wilberfoss AFC first team manager Kieron O’Brien has moved quickly to secure three new signings. Matthew Wain, Tom Matthews and Jack Condren have all been added to the squad having impressed in pre season and today signed on the dotted line.
The experienced striker and winger Matty Wain comes with a proven track record, not only as a player, but also a coach, having won the York Premier League as manager of Dunnington FC. Having stepped as player/manager there last season, O’Brien was quick to move for Wain who was in his early career offered professional terms with Scottish club Airdrie United before going on to represent Selby Town, Tadcaster Albion, Pickering Town and Ossett Albion. In addition Matty offers O’Brien a wealth of coaching knowledge having gained the highly acclaimed UEFA B coaching badge.
O’Brien’s second signing is Tom Matthews who again follows Wain from Dunnington. Matthews suffered an injured hit 2015/16 season however has been one of their standout performers for a number of seasons. Tom also comes with plenty of higher level experience, having worn the shirt of Selby Town, Tadcaster Albion and Barton Town and can operate in a number of positions.
In addition O’Brien has added youngster Jack Condren as his third summer signing, joining Foss’ from York Premier League team York RI. Condren is comfortable in defence or midfield offering O’Brien options and has impressed during pre-season.
O’Brien spoke following the confirmation of all three signings: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Matty, Tom and Jack to the club and secure these signings quickly. I know Matty and Tom well through my playing days, so when I knew they were available I was keen to add them to the squad. Jack came highly recommended and his attitude has been superb in training and looks to add a bit of extra grit to the team.’
