Wilberfoss AFC 5-0 Jorvik Blades FC

Yew Tree Associate sponsored Wilberfoss AFC brought down the curtain on their double winning season, with a convincing 5-0 win over Jorvik Blades FC.

Manager Walker had the luxury of picking from an almost fully fit squad with Phil O’Reilly returning after a broken arm, Kieron O’Brien returning after family commitments and Jed Vale coming back in after being unavailable for the trip to South Milford.

Foss started brightly and found themselves 1-0 to the good when Rich Tinson gave them the lead after good work by Simon Houlder down the left on 15 minutes. Oliver Newby should have given ‘Foss a stronger lead however saw his penalty saved by the Blades keeper. Jed Vale made sure Brian Walkers men went into the break 2-0 up when he raced through onto a Newby through ball after a good ‘Foss passing move.

Straight after the break ‘Foss made it 3-0 when Simon Houlder tucked home a smart finish and Vale soon got his second from the penalty spot after Newby was fouled. The game was put to bed when Vale sealed his hat trick after 80 minutes. The game did end on a sour note after a dangerous tackle on the Jed Vale which saw him leave the field of play with a serious ankle injury.

After the game Wilberfoss AFC were presented with the league trophy which resulted in the obligatory champagne spray and wild celebrations.

Manager Brian Walker spoke of his delight after lifting the league trophy for the second time in his managerial career. “I’m delighted for all the boys and the club. The league table doesn’t lie and to go all season unbeaten in the league is a testament to the squad and everyone involved at the club”
