Wilberfoss AFC 0 v 3 Barmby Moor
Having comfortably seen their opponents off in the first round of the League Junior Cup, Yewtree Associates sponsored Wilberfoss AFC entertained local rivals Barmby Moor on Saturday afternoon.
From minute one this contest was keenly contested with plenty of bite, as you’d expect with any local derby.
Following a cagey first ten minutes it was the away team that fortuitously took the lead when a speculative shot from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection that left Cole in goal no chance of saving. Despite Willoughby increasingly seeing more of the ball in the ‘Foss midfield, the remainder of the first half was frustrating for both teams as defences stayed on top and chances on goal remained few and far between.
The second half continued much as the first had left off, Barmby becoming increasingly frustrated with the disciplined ‘Foss line that kept catching them offside. At the other end Vale, who had been introduced for the injured Chelin, was starting to have some joy down the left wing but ‘Foss weren’t able to convert any of the half chances that came their way. With the game remaining evenly matched, Barmby’s second goal was a bodyblow for ‘Foss, a long range well struck effort out of nothing finding its way into the roof of the net. Manager Walker re-jigged positions and introduced Drydal for Houlder as ‘Foss tried to force a way back into the match but to no avail. After 70 mins Barmby effectively sealed the tie when their sub forward was put through and clinically slotted home for 3-0 from what was the games only real clear cut chance. Both teams battled hard to the end with no further changes in the score.
Man Of the Match: this week went to Mark Willoughby for a determined display.
Next week they will be hoping to bounce back at home in the league against Huby, 2pm kick off.
